Clustered Application Servers Communication

Communication between clustered Application Servers can occur with either UDP or TCP. UDP (Multicast communication) is the default. If UDP is not a reliable means of communications and may cause problems, depending on the network setup. If so, the alternative is TCP (Reliable communication). To select TPC, you must modify oware/jboss-3.2.7/owareconf/cluster-service.xml to enable an appserver or medserver cluster:

<TCPPING initial_hosts="192.168.1.29[7800]" ... />

Replace the sample IP address 192.168.1.29 with a space-separated list containing the IP address/port combinations of all of the servers in the cluster, except the server on which the file resides.

For example, a cluster containing 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, and 192.168.0.3 would be configured as follows:

On server 192.168.0.1

<TCPPING initial_hosts="192.168.0.2[7800] 192.168.0.3[7800]" ... />

On server 192.168.0.2 -

<TCPPING initial_hosts="192.168.0.1[7800] 192.168.0.3[7800]" ... />

On server 192.168.0.3 -

<TCPPING initial_hosts="192.168.0.1[7800] 192.168.0.2[7800]" ... />
